Apple Canada has updated its line of all-in-one iMac desktop computers. The new series offers a choice of Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, and 21.5 and 27-inch high-definition LED-backlit LCD screens. All models feature discrete ATI Radeon graphics processors, and come with Apple's Magic Mouse and wireless keyboard. Apple's wireless Magic Trackpad, which allows the use of multi-touch gestures, are available as an option. The new computers ship with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and the iLife suite of media applications (iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand) pre-installed.
Other features common to the whole series include 802.11n networking, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, four USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire 800 port, iSight video camera, 8x DVD SuperDrive with dual-layer support, and SD/SDHC/SDXC memory-card slot.
Prices start at $1,299, for a model with a 21.5-inch 1920x1080 display, 3.03GHz Intel i3 dual-core processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory, ATI Radeon HD4670 graphics with 256MB video memory, and 500GB hard drive. A step-up model priced at $1,599 offers a 3.2GHz Core i3, ATI Radeon HD5670 graphics with 512MB of video memory, and 1TB drive. A similarly speced model, but with a larger 27-inch 2560x1440 screen, retails for $1,799.
For $2,099, buyers can get a 27-inch iMac with 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of emory, ATI HD5750 graphics with 1GB of video memory, and 1TB drive. All the new iMacs have configure-to-order options. Depending on the model, these options include faster processors, additional memory, bigger hard drives, and solid-state drives.
Also announced by Apple Canada were new quad-core and eight-core Mac Pro desktops, at prices starting at $2,599, as well as a new 27-inch LED-backlit Cinema Display with 2560x1440 resolution. The display features built-in iSight camera, powered USB 2.0 hub, microphone and stereo speakers. It will be available in September in the U.S. for US$999; Canadian availability and pricing will be announced later.
