CEDIA to Add 'Future Technology' Pavilion to 2010 Expo

The Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) plans to feature a Future Technology Pavilion at this year's annual Expo, which takes place later than usual, from September 22-26, 2010.

The Pavilion will showcase emerging trends, says the Association, and "cutting-edge" home technologies. These will range from entertainment-focused products, to those involving sustainability and digital home health, and will consist of a multi-room exhibit, with each area designed to resemble a room of the home.

On the home theatre side, for example, show-goers will be able to see how new technologies like 3D, 9.1 surround sound, and motion seating can be integrated into a theatre room of the home. The makeshift room will also demonstrate acoustic and video calibration, and the bests ways to achieve this.

The virtual garage will focus on energy management, and how consumers can monitor and reduce energy usage in the home. Technologies will include things like ZigBee-enabled circuit breakers, power monitoring technology and electric vehicle charging stations.

In the bedroom, visitors will see how consumers can access functions like remote blood pressure monitoring systems, weight monitoring sensors, and a pulse/oxygen meter through one interface.

Back in the living room, attendees will see how social media and telepresence can be integrated with home technology systems.

Some of the technologies shown will still be in development, but the Pavilion will aim to show the possibilities for how various products can be integrated in the home, and how R&D labs and universities are working toward reaching these goals.

"The Future Technology Pavilion will give CEDIA EXPO attendees a glimpse at the products and technologies that will be impacting the market in the months and years to come," says CEDIA CEO Utz Baldwin. "This showcase will help attendees anticipate future opportunities for growth in this ever-changing industry."

In addition to the Pavilion, four complementary panel sessions will be held, two of which include HDMI Hot Seat and Digital Home Health: What It Is and How It Affects Us All. The Future Opportunities of Residential Communications, The Future of Home Entertainment.

CEDIA Expo 2010 returns to Atlanta, GA for the second year in a row. Next year, the event will be going back to its roots in Indianapolis, IN.
