This fall, Nikon Canada Inc. will add three models to its Style and Performance series of Coolpix digital cameras, including a touchscreen model, a compact super-zoom, and a camera aimed at serious photo enthusiasts.
The Coolpix P7000 (shown at top of story) is intended for DSLR users who want a capable, carry-anywhere camera. It features a 1/1.7-inch-type 10.1-megapixel sensor and 7.1x Nikkor wide-angle zoom lens (28-200mm equivalent) with two ED elements and VR image stabilization. Photographers can compose images on the three-inch 921,000-dot LCD or eye-level optical viewfinder; a histogram is available on the LCD during shooting.
The P7000 has three user memory settings, which allows photographers to store settings for their most common shooting situations. Zoom setting lets users instantly set the lens to preferred focal lengths for shots such as portraits or landscapes. As well as stills, the S7000 can record 720p HD video, with mono sound. An optional stereo mic that attaches to the camera's hot shoe is also available. The hot shoe also accepts Nikon external flash units.
The Coolpix P7000 will be available in late September for $500 MSRP.
Available in red, black and champagne, the Coolpix S8100 features a 10x Nikkor ED lens (30-300mm equivalent) lens with VR image stabilization, and a bright three-inch 921,000-dot high-resolution LCD. It employs a 12.1-megapixel backside-illumination CMOS sensor that provides enhanced low-light capabilities. A new Night Portrait mode combines consecutive shots to bring out background detail, while flash illumination preserves detail and prevents blurring of the primary subject in the foreground.
In addition to 12.1-megapixel stills, the Coolpix S8100 can shoot HD video at 1920x1080 (1080p) resolution, with stereo sound. Optical zoom is available during video recording. The camera has a dedicated movie button, and basic editing functions that let users to trim scenes in-camera. The camera can record up to five full-resolution stills at 10 frames per second, with Subject Tracking autofocus tracking the designated subject.
The Coolpix S8100 will be available in early October for $320 MSRP.
The Coolpix S80 has a 3.5-inch OLED touchscreen. Users can tap on the screen to designate the primary subject, and the camera will set focus and exposure accordingly, then snap the picture. The interface employs tab-style graphics that keep icons from cluttering the screen. After the picture is taken, users can adjust pictures and add effects by touching the screen.
The S80 has a 5x zoom lens (35-175mm equivalent) with VR image stabilization, and a 14.1-megapixel CCD sensor. In addition to stills, it can also shoot 720p (1280x720) HD video, with optical zoom and stereo sound available during recording.
The Coolpix S80 will arrive in mid-October for $350 MSRP. It's available in red, black and blue finishes.
