Trends Electronics to Distribute RedEye IR Control Device

Trends Electronics has been appointed a Canadian distributor for the RedEye system, which works with a partner iTunes app to allow the user to control home theatre devices with an iPhone or iPod Touch.

Download the free RedEye app from the iTunes store, than use the compatible iPhone or iPod Touch to communicate with the RedEye unit. The device will send infrared (IR) signals over WiFi to compatible home theatre components, regardless of whether you are in the room or not. This would allow someone to switch the song currently playing through the living room stereo system while he's out on the patio, for example, or pause a movie or TV show in the bedroom while down in the laundry room.

Additional devices and rooms can be controlled with additional RedEye systems. And naturally, if everyone in the house has his own iPod or iPhone, he can use it to control a specific room, or various rooms.

According to the parent company, ThinkFlood, Inc., the RedEye system can control "virtually all home entertainment devices with infrared capabilities."

As noted, the app is free, as will be ongoing software updates. The RedEye system itself is very affordable at just US$188, and includes the WiFi-to-infrared bridge, AC power adapter; and universal dock adapters for iPod touch, iPhone, and iPhone 3G/3GS. The Apple device must have firmware update 2.2.1 or later. According to the company, the system takes no longer than 15-20 minutes to set up; a video demonstration is available at the company's Website.
