HP has introduced three new consumer notebook PCs, including a no-holds-barred model with 3D video.
HP Envy 17 3D: HP's new 3D model will be available for the holiday season. Exact ship date and Canadian price will be announced later. The Envy 17 3D features a 17.3-inch 1920x1080-pixel screen, AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics and built-in Blu-ray drive. It's supplied with a pair of HP active-shutter 3D glasses. Bundled 3D content includes footage from the 2010 NBA All-Star Game and a 3D trailer for DreamWorks' forthcoming Megamind.
Crafted in precision-etched brushed aluminum, the HP Envy 17 3D is available with quad-core Intel Core i7 processors and up to two terabytes of storage capacity. Its features a Beats Audio sound system, and HP Triple Bass Reflex "subwoofer."
HP Envy 14 Beats Edition: The Beats sound system is also employed on HP's latest premium 14-inch notebook, which is now available in Canada for $1,450. Beats Audio was developed in collaboration with artist and producer Dr. Dre, and chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records and Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine.
Each HP Envy 14 Beats Edition comes with one set of Beats by Dr. Dre Solo Headphones from Monster; additional headphones may be purchased separately.
Featuring a soft-touch aluminum design, the HP Envy 14 Beats Edition maintains the signature Beats Audio black-and-red style, and includes a red backlit keyboard and three custom Beats-themed wallpapers.
Offering up to 6.5 hours of battery life with the standard battery, and up to 13 hours with the optional HP Slim Fit Extended-Life battery, the HP Envy 14 Beats Edition includes Intel Core processors and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics.
Both the HP Envy 14 Beats Edition and HP Envy 17 3D are bundled with Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 photo-editing and Adobe Premiere Elements 8 video-editing software.
HP Pavilion dm3: Less than an inch thick, the HP Pavilion dm3 notebook PC features HP CoolSense Technology, which employs hardware features like metal alloys, soft-touch paint and non-conductive surfaces, plus strategically placed vents to conduct heat away from the bottom of the PC. HP Thermal Assistant software detects how the PC is being used (for example, around the house or on a desk) and an accelerometer automatically shifts into either a maximum cooling mode or maximum performance mode based on the customer's choice.
Another bundled application, HP Fences, lets users organize photos, music and videos, by categories, then access them quickly, keeping the desktop uncluttered.
The HP Pavilion dm3 includes a 13.3-inch diagonal HD display, an island-style keyboard with optional backlit feature and a metal finish with soft-touch surfaces in matte black. Canadian retail price is $850.
HP Wireless TV Connect: Complementing HP's PC portfolio, HP Wireless TV Connect allows customers to wirelessly stream 1080p HD multimedia content, such as Blu-ray movies, videos and photos, from the notebook PC to a TV or home-entertainment centre without audio or video cables.
The kit will work with any notebook with an HDMI port. The transmitter is powered by the PC's USB port, so it can be used anywhere in the viewing. The receiver connects to an HDMI input on an HDTV or home-entertainment system. No software is required. HP Wireless TV Connect fully supports protected content such as Blu-ray and DVD movies.
The Wireless TV Connect will be available in Canada in late October for $200 MSRP.
