In a blog posting, Twitter notes that more than 150 million Olympic-themed tweets were made during the 16 days of the London 2012 summer games. Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, was the most tweeted athlete of the event.
The Jamaican sprinter generated nearly 200,000 tweets per minute (TPM) combined, when he won gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay competitions. All three of these were among the top five most tweeted moments of the games (as measured by TPM), with the others being Andy Murray winning gold in men's tennis (57,000+ TPM) and Team USA defeating Spain in the gold medal basketball match (41,000+ TPM).
In addition to Bolt, nine other athletes at the games were tweeted about more than a million times.
