Panasonic Canada Inc. has announced an addition to its line of 3D-capable Blu-ray players. Arriving in August, the DMP-BDT100 joins the 3D-capable DMP-BDT350 (which we previously reviewed, along with Panasonic's TC-P54VT25 3D-capable plasma TV) in Panasonic's Blu-ray lineup. According to Panasonic, the DMP-BDT100 boots up in just half a second.
In addition to playback of 2D and 3D Blu-ray Discs (and DVDs and CDs as well), both the DMP-BDT350 and DMP-BDT100 feature Panasonic's VIERA CAST Internet functionality, which brings a variety of streaming services, including Twitter, YouTube, Bloomberg Television and weather updates, into the home theatre. Like the BDT325, the BDT100 has Wi-Fi connectivity, so that you can get these features (as well as BD-Live content on Blu-ray movies) without having to string a LAN cable to your home theatre.
Users can also view JPEG digital photos and AVCHD/MPEG-2 videos shot on digital cameras and camcorders, via the player's integrated SD card reader or USB input. The player can also be used to display 3D content shot by a Panasonic HDC-SDT750 camcorder.
Pricing for the DMP-BDT100 will be announced at a later date, but will be lower than the price for the BDT325, which is currently $600 MSPR. To the BDT100's features, the BDT325 adds 7.1-channel analog audio outputs, premium audio circuitry, isolation feet and a half-mirror cosmetic finish.
