D-Link Canada has released its SharePort Mobile Companion, a product that allows the business traveller to transform a wired Internet connection into a personal wireless network, as well as create a Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple devices.
For instance, if an individual is at a conference within a hotel and the Wi-Fi signal is weak or non-existent, he can then link up the SharePort with a room's wired Internet connection and then be able to access the Web wirelessly on his tablet, smartphone and laptop, if so desired.
The SharePort also has a DLNA-enabled USB that can stream content to smart TVs. When a USB drive/key is inserted into the port and the user has downloaded the free SharePort Mobile app to his smartphone or tablet, he can then stream photos, music and videos directly to his Android and iOS devices.
Additionally, different content can be shared across numerous mobile devices at the same time, even if an Internet connection isn't available.
What's more, the SharePort acts as a repeater to help extend a wireless signal from an existing wireless router in order to cover an in-home "dead zone." It can also be used as a device charger.
The SharePort Mobile Companion (DIR-505) is available now for $59.99.
