While visiting India in February, Jon Moe of Skookumchuck, B.C. used a Pentax K100D and 18-55mm kit lens to capture this early-morning shot of a fisherman casting his net into the sea in Goa. A fast shutter speed of 1/250 second helped Jon catch the net in mid-air. As a grand-prize winner, Jon receives a Nikon Coolpix S600 digital camera, which features a 4x wide-angle zoom lens, 10-megapixel sensor, and Nikon’s Vibration Reduction image-stabilization system.

When his spotted his two-year-old Pomeranian playing with a nut in backyard, Frankie Kwong of Coquitlam, B.C. went into the house and grabbed his Nikon D300 digital SLR, then lay on the lawn to take some low-angle shots of BoBo at play. Frankie used a Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 APO EX DC lens, and set the D300 to continuous high-speed shooting and continuous servo autofocus. Of the six shots in the series, Frankie likes this one best because of BoBo’s playful expression. The Nikon Coolpix S600 digicam that Frankie has won has an Active Child Mode that tracks and focuses on a selected subject.

A pilot for Air Canada Jazz, Kaviv Momoh of Port Dover, Ont. took this stunning picture from 8,000 feet above Lake Ontario using a Canon PowerShot G7 camera. He was struck by the beautiful geometry, created by the wake of a boat travelling across the lake. As a runner-up, Kaviv receives a Nikon Coolpix L18 digital camera, with eight-megapixel sensor, 3x zoom lens and Face Priority autofocus.

Szymon Szymczakowski of Calgary wins a Nikon Coolpix L18 eight-megapixel camera, with in-camera red-eye fix and anti-shake auto-exposure, for this atmospheric picture taken at Chesterman Beach in Tofino, B.C. Szymon placed his Nikon Coolpix 5900 on a tripod and set the self-timer, then he and his fiancée went strolling down the beach. Szymon’s new in-laws liked the picture so much that they made a poster of it, and displayed it at the couple’s wedding in June.
