The latest data from DisplaySearch, a division of The NPD Group, finds that global flat-panel TV shipments are up 11 per cent to 47.5 million units in Q2 2008 when compared to the same quarter in 2007. When comparing this quarter to last, shipments are up three per cent.
For the first time ever, shipments of LCD TVs have surpassed those of CRT. Worldwide LCD TV shipments in 2007, according to DisplaySearch (a division of NPD Group), were 28.5 million, representing 47 per cent of the market.
"Full HD" 1080p resolution has helped fuel plasma TV growth worldwide during the second quarter of 2008. According to DisplaySearch, a division of the NPD Group, plasma shipment units increased 1 per cent quarter-over-quarter (Q/Q) to 3.5 million units, but 54 per cent year-over-year (Y/Y). 1080p also helped to drive revenues up 28 per cent Y/Y and six per cent Q/Q. The results show that 1080p now accounts for 21 per cent of all plasma shipped.
